Up a Tree
by Maggie Easter, Becketwood Member
What do you do when you are “up a tree?”
First you find a branch upon which to sit.
Then look around for what to see.
If in winter
There are no leaves to hinder,
So you can see for miles
If your eyes are wild.
Birds?
The crow,
Blue jay, or sparrow
Or maybe a chickadee
You may see.
These are the birds of winter.
Come spring
Now that’s a different thing!
The warblers are on the wing
Coming North to sing!
The tree on which you sit
Has sprung to life, so green lit.
Maybe a blossom if flowering is in its span
Of life for human man.
The sky above is blue
with clouds of white
What a sight!
Think I’ll sit a while
and take in the beauty
before I get wet
from clouds that are now set
deep gray full of moisture
to water the earth and me!
Plan B:
Get me down
Before the rain
begins to fall
And I get soggy, y’all.
